Commanding the highest bid of the evening was a Burmese ruby and diamond ring, a masterpiece that captured imaginations and wallets alike. Weighing an awe-inspiring 17.97 carats, this gem achieved CHF 4.8 million (US$5.4 million), underscoring the unrelenting demand for high-quality rubies. Benoît Repellin, Phillips’ Worldwide Head of Jewellery, aptly remarked, “This result highlights the enduring allure of colored gemstones, especially those of exceptional quality.”
The Important Colombian emerald ring, featuring a stunning step-cut emerald weighing 20.49 carats and sized at 52, captivated bidders with its exceptional quality. With no indications of clarity modification, the emerald’s deep green hue and remarkable transparency stood as a testament to its Colombian origins, renowned for producing the world’s finest emeralds. Its classic design highlighted the stone’s brilliance, culminating in a final price of CHF 1.3 million (US$1.5 million).
This sale underscored the enduring appeal of unenhanced natural gems and cemented the piece as a true collector’s treasure.
The Red Miracle, a cut-cornered rectangular-cut Fancy Red diamond ring weighing 1.21 carats, captivated collectors with its rarity and brilliance. Enhanced by heart-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds alongside circular-cut pink sapphires, the ring, sized at 51, embodied elegance and sophistication. Fancy red diamonds are among the rarest in the world, and this exquisite piece achieved an impressive CHF 980,000 (US$1.1 million), far exceeding expectations and affirming its extraordinary appeal.
Among the auction’s understated yet exquisite highlights was a Ceylon sapphire and diamond ring, set with a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 9.00 carats. Framed by a halo of pear-shaped diamonds, the piece showcased timeless sophistication, with a delicate balance between the sapphire’s vivid blue hue and the sparkle of its diamond surround. Sized at 52, the ring bore a French maker’s mark and an assay mark for platinum, emphasizing its high craftsmanship and provenance.
Achieving CHF 184,000 (US$210,000), the ring exemplified the enduring appeal of classic designs paired with exceptional gemstones, further solidifying its place as a treasured acquisition for the winning bidder.
This elegant natural pearl and diamond necklace, once owned by a European noble family, stood as a testament to timeless sophistication and historical significance. Composed of four rows of natural pearls measuring between 2.90mm and 10.80mm, the necklace was a harmonious blend of subtle beauty and refined craftsmanship. Its clasp, set with circular-cut diamonds, added a touch of sparkle to the piece, while the French maker’s mark and assay mark for gold attested to its prestigious origins.
Measuring between 425mm and 535mm in length, the necklace offered versatility and grandeur. While most pearls were natural, two were noted as cultured, a detail that did not deter bidders from vying fiercely for this extraordinary heirloom. Exceeding expectations, the necklace achieved a remarkable final price of CHF 267,000 (US$303,000)—over four times its presale low estimate—highlighting the enduring allure of pearls in the world of fine jewelry.
